Sometimes a road less traveled can bring unexpected delights. If you are looking for a truly unique experience in Jamaica, there is no better way to see the island than from your own MINI Cooper on a once in a lifetime drive day. The tour was hosted by two amazing members of the Island Routes team, Tiffany and Sarah, and got a five-star rating from our attendees in town for the JOZU For Women Travel Summit.

Although this is typically a day trip that departs and returns to their offices in Montego Bay, Island Routes customized our itinerary and turned what would usually be a short and mundane 2-hour drive to Negril to a half-day trip with pit stops at some of the island’s must-see sights en route.

The JOZU VIP CREW were picked up at their residence in Montego Bay in MINI Coopers. They were given the option to sdrive themselves and their expert guide, or to sit back and relax while being driven as they zipped down to famous landmarks and local hotspots while making their way to Negril, Jamaica’s “capital of casual.” The first stop took them to a local coconut vendor for nature’s best form of hydration – fresh coconut water. To appease their palate, they then stopped at authentic Jerk shack for a cooking demonstration where legendary Jamaican chefs taught the attendees how this flavourful meat is slow cooked and seasoned.

They proceeded through the historic town of Lucea and followed the beautiful coastline against the backdrop of rolling lush hills. Upon arriving in Negril, the ladies were treated to delicious lunch and soaked up a few rays on Seven Mile Beach. They continued to the iconic Negril Lighthouse at the westernmost point of the island, famous for its breathtaking views. Because no trip to Negril is complete without a jump and a splash, the group stopped at Ricks Café to witness legendary cliff-diving into beautiful crystal clear waters.

The Summit attendees gave the Island Routes Mini tour five stars for the following:

1. Flexibility. They could get behind the wheel or leave the driving to the guide.

2. Safety. The ladies felt that they could relax as each location had been fully vetted by the tour operators.

3. Shared Experience. Getting to drive with and get to know with local Jamaican ladies was a true highlight of the day.
